Learning Hindi in 90 days?

Learning Hindi in 90 days?

At the end of last year, I decided to embark on a 90 day challenge to learn Hindi, through the Fluent in 3 Months challenge.

I really didn’t know if I’d make it to the end – looking after a 6 month old (now 9 month old at the end of the challenge) doesn’t exactly leave much time for new hobbies. Not to mention, my brain is so tired from lack of sleep I seriously doubted its new-language-retention capabilities!

But I had two main motivators. Firstly, the aforementioned baby. I really want to raise my daughter bilingual. My husband can speak to her in Hindi, and I don’t want to miss out – or let’s be real, let them get away with anything!

Secondly, I want to connect with my husband’s family more in their mother-tongue. Most of them can speak English, but I have always found, even when travelling, that a deeper connection is made when you speak people’s preferred language.

The goal of the challenge is that by the end of 90 days, you should be able to have a 15 minute conversation with a native speaker. You don’t have to be perfect – just understand and be understood. Afterall, the point of language is communication, not how many grammatical errors you did/did not make haha 😉

So did I make it? See for yourself – here is my Day 0 Video and Day 90 Video. Remember to turn captions on if you don’t speak Hindi 🙂

Day 90 of the Fi3M Challenge: Learning Hindi in 90 days

If you can speak Hindi, you will see I still made many mistakes in my Day 90 video. BUT I could be understood and I could understand my speaking buddy. I was nervous, my mind kept going blank with things to talk about, but I am SO PROUD of my achievement 🙂

But wait, there’s more! My next blog post will be about the top lessons I learned during this process.

(p.s. I paid to do the challenge myself and am in no way affiliated with Fi3M. I have followed their content for ages and so when they had an awesome Black Friday sale, I finally decided to do the challenge!)
